Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards (music)

Billy Bragg: Waiting For The Great Leap Forwards

This is the updated version, on the Henry Rollins show, some interesting changes.

The lyrics (B Bragg) in the original had the following lines:

If you’ve got a black list I want to be on it…
Start your own revolution, cut out the middleman
In a perfect world we’d all sing in tune
But this is reality so give me some room
So join the struggle while you may
The Revolution is just a tshirt away ……..

What this is saying, is, if there is a black list, don’t be scared about whether “they” put you on it, it means you’re doing something right, you are standing up for something worthwhile.

Don’t wait for things to be perfect, stop waiting for the great leap forward, stop waiting for the right moment to act, stop waiting for everyone else to catch up and sing the same tune.

Instead, if you want the revolution, just do it, act. There is no reason for anyone else to be the one to start it, cut out the middleman. Be the one to start it.

All you need is the tshirt, put it on, and go.
